The Champions Trophy is a cricket tournament organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Originally planned to raise funds to develop the sport in associate nations, this multinational event has turned out to be too big to stick to its cause.

Despite having the same format as the World Cup (One Day International), this tournament attracted huge viewership owing to its short tenure and fewer matches. Having said that, the upcoming edition is all set to entertain cricket fans across the globe. Now that this is just few weeks away from today, let’s hype up the things a bit. Here are five reasons why #CT25 is really special.

First Tournament Under Jay Shah’s Reign

As we all know, Jay Shah, who’s previously served as the secretary of BCCI, has turned out to be the third Indian personnel to take over as the Chairman of ICC. After having assumed office in December last year, #CT25 will be the first world event that’ll be held in his tenure.

First Edition in the Past Eight Years

While the Champions Trophy was originally launched (with the title ‘Knockout Trophy’) as a biennial tournament, it went on to evolve as a quadrennial one. But sadly, its been eight long years since a cricket team was honoured with those ‘White Winners Jackets’. Yes, #CT25 is the first such edition since 2017’s when Pakistan famously outplayed India in the final to claim their first title.

Afghanistan Is Now A Real Contender

If there’s any team on the world map that’s been on the ascending curve throughout the twentieth century, it is Afghanistan. Beginning from their first tournament appearance in #CWC15, the Mohammed Nabi-led team has defeated the likes of England and Australia in world cups. They’ve created history when they’ve outplayed the mighty Aussies to claim their maiden World Cup semi-final spot. Looking at the pace this Jonathan Trott side is progressing, it won’t be a surprise if Afghanistan bags this edition’s Champions Trophy.

India’s Best Chance to Seek Revenge

The final of the #CWC23 is a nightmare for every cricket fan waving the tricolor flag. After all, India, a team that has been ridiculously dominant throughout the tournament, has been completely outplayed by the men in yellow. All credit to the Pat Cummins’s troop. But revenge is sweeter, isn’t it? Yes, #CT25, a tournament of the same 50-over format, is Rohit’s best chance to balance the scoreboard.

Ro-Ko’s Last Tournament Appearance?

Ever since MSD hung up his boots, there’s one duo that has carried the cricketing hopes of one and a half billion fans on their very shoulders: Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli. No matter who’s your pick among them, you can’t deny the fact that they’ve been two of the vital pillars of Indian cricket, particularly in White-ball cricket. But sadly, nothing in this universe is permanent, and this duo’s legendary careers are no exception. To put it straight, #CT25 could be the last time Ro-Ko will don the iconic blue jersey. Well, I really hope it’s not; there’s a high chance of this turning out to be true.
