Multilingual Release

Following the thumping victory in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh General Elections, Pawan Kalyan had become a national sensation of Indian politics. Needless to say, Modi Ji’s praise was the icing on the cake. Capitalizing on this, the makers of #OG have opted for a release in Tamil and Hindi, alongside its original Telugu version. It must be noted that Sujeeth’s previous venture, Sahoo (2019), was a commercial success in the Hindi belt, and casting Arjun Das in a key role is likely to bring in some audiences in the state of Tamil Nadu.

The AD Jinx

Ever since Trivikram Srinivas’s comedy drama Attarintiki Daredi (2013) hit the cinemas, everything has gone downhill for Pawan Kalyan. Following its enviable success, the actor had to bear multiple failures in the coming years. His subsequent hiatus from films, failure in politics, and comeback to remake films further dented his market. In simpler terms, the ‘Power Star’ hasn’t witnessed a success of his stature since 2013. And fingers being crossed, #OG is expected to hit the bullseye.

Gangster Genre

For those unaware, Kalyan has always had a strong inclination towards arms. The actor-turned-politician also holds a gun license as a trained shooter and is a member of the Madras Rifle Club. This fascination even inspired writer-director Karunakaran to craft Balu (2005), which featured him as a dreaded gangster. As you could see, after twenty long years, the actor is back in his fan-favorite role.

A Sujeeth Sambhavam

The last—or probably the only—time Kalyan was directed by a fanboy was in Gabbar Singh (2012). An official remake of Salman Khan’s Dabangg (2010), the film was a major commercial success and was touted as a comeback for the actor after a string of failures. And now, Sujeeth Reddy, a young filmmaker claiming to be an ardent devotee of ‘Power Star,’ is in the director’s shoes directing the mighty Pawan Kalyan—enough reason for fans to go gaga over #OG!

The Last Ride (Possibly)!

As the title reads, this is probably the last time Kalyan will be seen on the big screen. Of course, Harish Shankar’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh is around the corner, but considering the actor’s ambitious political plans and the makers’ financial hurdles after facing multiple production halts, the film may never see a theatrical release. It’s also vital to note this action comedy is an adaptation of Atlee’s Theri (2016), thus making its release prospects less exciting.

All in all, They Call Him OG, regardless of the outcome, will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Pawan Kalyan fans. The record-breaking advance bookings recorded so far are a testament to the same. With that being said, watch #OG in your nearest cinemas this Thursday!
